Down at FINEX we’re rarely accused of excess emotion. Our one exception is our passion for cast iron. You see in the big picture we are on the large side of tiny. We make as much cookware in a week as some make in an hour but we handle, stare at and scrutinize every piece and would challenge just about anybody to out-love us when it comes to what we make.
We are unabashedly, head over heels, smitten with cast iron. Are we saying we are cast iron crazy? Yes. In fact we are proud to be called that kind of crazy and even though we never need an excuse to declare our love for our favorite cookware Valentine’s Day is a great one. So how do we love cast iron? Let us count the ways…
We love cast iron because it’s deeply good at what it does. It’s as steady as an old friend, as loyal as a good dog and more handsome than the average quarterback. Whether it’s searing, baking, pancaking, grilling or scrambling we don’t have to tell you how versatile it is. Granted don’t microwave it but if cast iron weren’t so humble we’d probably hate it for being so talented.
We love cast iron because as a small team of perfectionists crafting heirloom quality cookware in America keeps our hands busy and our minds at work. We’ve always preferred workbenches to desks and earplugs to telephones and believe in the enduring value of American manufacturing. Making this in the USA for you is a beautiful challenge that we are proud to take.
But mostly we love cast iron because we get to share it like a good meal with you – our friends who dedicate a little space in their crowded inbox for the occasional news from our crowded workshop. Today a newly married couple sent us a picture of them thrilled with the FINEX No.10 they just opened at their wedding. We find that deeply gratifying and well worth it. It’s also a lot of fun.
This is the where I’m supposed to ask you to buy something so we can keep our furnace running but not today. Just this once spend that cash on your sweetie tonight (or the good ice cream if you don’t have one this year). Or get your FINEX out and make some sweet pancakes like those pictured above that our friend Amanda @thehappylittleapron made this morning.
With cast iron gratitude,
Mike Whitehead
